Watermelon and Lime Agua Fresca

Just in time for the fourth of July, I found a perfect drink to celebrate with. This fun summer recipe comes from the June 2012 issue of “Yoga Journal”. Make sure you frost your glasses beforehand, as it adds to the fun of this blended drink. Tequila is a must, if adults are present. I loved the way it tasted with this drink. The recipe calls for this to be frozen, but I don’t think that’s totally necessary. It didn’t last that long at our house. It definitely needs to be cold though, so make sure you at least chill it in the fridge. You could try freezing your watermelon cubes and then blending them. It’d make it (a bit) harder to blend, but it’d be super cold right off the bat.

Watermelon and Lime Agua Fresca
4 cups cubed, seeded ripe watermelon
juice of one lime, plus more to taste
agave syrup, optional
tequila, to taste
lime slices, to serve

1. Put the watermelon in a blender and blend till smooth.
2. Add the lime juice and syrup, if using.
3. Blend quickly to mix.
4. Pour the mixture in a bowl or pitcher and put it in the freezer till it turns slushy.
5. Pour into frosted glasses garnished with lime slices, add tequila if you’re using it, and serve.
